In Denton County, a specially appointed panel of 12 people, called a grand jury, meets once a week and hears evidence in cases where a crime is suspected. (The grand jury is selected from a random jury pool, just like a trial jury, but they serve for a longer period of time. ) If the grand jury finds there is enough evidence to hold a person for trial of that crime, then they vote for a “true bill” of indictment.
